Thursday is Newcomers Night!
"Aside from fellowship and sociability, the prime object was to provide a time
and place where new people might bring their problems."
Reprinted from Alcoholics Anonymous "Big Book" page 160, with permission
of A.A. World Services, Inc.
Beginning Thursday, October 1, 2009 - and continuing every Thursday evening,
we're going to have an evening of A.A. centered on newcomers. One purpose
is to make sure we have potential sponsors on hand throughout the evening to
welcome and be available for these newcomers.
We are going out to Institutions in the Greater
Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area to let them know we
are having a Newcomers night every Thursday night,
and to invite their members to join us.
For this to work, we need YOU - as sober members of A.A. - to be here for
them.
The evening will begin with a period for "fellowship and sociability"
followed by a choice of meetings.
The Opening meeting begins at 7:00 pm in the Main Room at 405 Oak Street,
and will include a brief history of A.A. and Oak Street, and a general introduction to the
Newcomers meetings. There will be a short break, where people can then
choose one of the four Beginners meetings covering:
- There is a Solution
- More About Alcoholism
- Steps 1, 2 and 3
- Sponsorship
There will also be a meeting centered around "Working with Others", where we
will provide an
opportunity for potential or new sponsors to listen to and talk with
people who have been sponsoring for many years, who can share their experience.
While these meetings are going on, there will also be a regular AA Lead meeting in the main room.
What we really need is for YOU to make a commitment to:
- Be here and available to welcome and sponsor newcomers.
- Volunteer to chair the different meetings.
- Bring snacks (cookies, cake, chips, etc.) and/or...
- Announce it at your home-group and other meetings you attend.

405 Oak Street has been a central location where many
people coming out of institutions have had their first experience with A.A. We want to continue to keep this as our major purpose
now, and for generations of alcoholics to come.
Many of you got sober at Oak Street, and whether you still come here or
not, you can really help make this come alive and give back what Oak Street has
given you.
Click here for a flyer for your home group and other
meetings you attend.
As always, your support is greatly appreciated.
